De Tophelos ; I bear the name of a city that tells stories across ancient times
I bear the name of a city that tells stories across ancient times, shaping the
paths of future generations, for each stone within it bears the imprints of time,
and every corner holds the mysteries of untold tales.
Successive civilizations have passed my lands, like parallel strings in the
symphony of history. Beginning with ancient Canaanites, to the kingdom of
Edom, eras and ages flowed, I stood as a testament to the creativity of the
Nabateans and Ghassanids. The Byzantines named me Augustopolis, “The
Emperor’s City”, and when the Muhammadan immortal beam of light came, I
was still bearing witness to the intertwined stories of time.
Today, in the Kingdom of Jordan, the land of glorious civilizations and heritage,
I stand tall as Hashemite Tafilah, a testament to the numerous generations that
called me home. I continue imparting the ancestors’ wisdom to the
grandchildren’s conscience, as the boundaries between the past, present, and
future fade away.
We are the heirs of the perseverance that shaped the land and its people. It hold
the stories of survival in green folds, carrying our ancient heritage with renewed
hope and great insight.
